When Physical Function Limits Your Life

Whether you are recovering from a major surgery, managing a chronic condition, or trying to return to the sport you love, physical limitations can be frustrating. When pain, swelling, or weakness prevents you from performing daily tasks or competing at your best, you need a rehabilitation team that understands the road to recovery. At Austin Orthopedic Institute (AOI), our physical therapists work directly with your physician to provide a seamless transition from diagnosis to functional strength. We don’t just treat the injury; we help you achieve your desired level of function and fitness.

Direct Physician Coordination

Unlike standalone clinics, our therapists work in the same building as your AOI surgeon. We have instant access to your surgical notes and imaging, ensuring your rehab is perfectly aligned with your physician’s goals.

AOI-Physical Therapy3

Manual Therapy First

While exercise is the foundation of health, we believe in a hands-on approach. Your therapist is trained in soft tissue manipulation, joint mobilizations, and neural dynamics to decrease pain and optimize movement quality.

Advanced Recovery Modalities

We utilize the latest technology to break the “pain-atrophy cycle,” including Dry Needling, Delphi BFR units, and Contactless Fluid Clearance (CFC)™ Therapy to rapidly relieve swelling and inflammation.

CFC™ Therapy was developed by Slipstream Solutions; follow the link to find out more: https://www.slipstreamrx.com/

Frequently Asked Questions

In Texas, you can often see a physical therapist for a limited time without a referral (Direct Access). However, for post-surgical care or to utilize certain insurance benefits, a referral from your AOI physician is standard.

BFR involves using a specialized tourniquet (we use the Delphi unit) to safely limit blood flow to a limb during exercise. This allows you to gain muscle strength using very light weights, which is perfect for patients who are recovering from surgery or too painful to load.

Most patients feel a small “twitch” response in the muscle, which can feel like a brief cramp. It is a highly effective way to “reset” dysfunctional tissue and stimulate a natural healing response.

Typically, sessions last 45 to 60 minutes. This ensures ample time for manual therapy, modality use (like CFC™ or BFR), and exercise instruction.

Frequency depends on your condition. Post-surgical patients often come 2-3 times per week, while others may only need once-a-week “check-ins” to progress their home program.

CFC™ Therapy is a cutting-edge recovery tool that uses specific frequencies to rapidly clear swelling and inflammation without touching the skin. It’s excellent for acute trauma and accelerating recovery following surgery.

Often, yes! By strengthening the muscles around a joint and improving mechanics, we can frequently delay or even eliminate the need for surgery in cases of mild-to-moderate arthritis or small tendon tears.

We are in the same building as the AOI physicians at our Jollyville location. We are on the first floor of the Kingstone Properties building (entrance on the south side, adjacent to the Ladera Vista parking lot).
